New Resident Evil 7 Details From Gamescom 2016

First announced earlier this year at E3, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has resurfaced at Gamescom with a new trailer, a few screenshots, and a little more information on what we can expect when it is released early next year.

In the trailer below, you’ll be introduced to Marguerite Baker and another mysterious woman as the Resident Evil series makes the switch to a first person perspective for the first in the long-running series’ numbered entries.  This new take on the franchise is said to embody the iconic gameplay that Resident Evil first made popular 20 years ago.  Returning to true survival horror, you can expect “signature gameplay features including exploration, puzzles and a realistic tense atmosphere.”  This also includes the return of the classic Resident Evil inventory system where you’ll have limited space for carrying items, forcing you to make decisions as to what you think is the most important for your survival.

Moving on to the trailer, this is what Capcom had to say about it:

“Set within the sinister plantation house in Dulvey, Louisiana, the Baker family, including Jack and Marguerite, were residents but no-one has seen or heard from them in a while. Where could they be? One thing is clear in the latest content to be shown from the game – there’s something not quite right within the plantation. Who is the mysterious girl in the gameplay? What does Marguerite want with her?”

It should be noted that some of the content of the trailer, while from the main game, has been altered a bit to avoid spoilers. So, let’s check it out.

I’m still a little skeptical about this change in direction for the series, but there’s no denying that the trailer is quite atmospheric and a return to Resident Evil‘s survival horror roots is more than welcome.  I’m still cautiously optimistic at this point and this trailer gives me hope that the franchise will return to its former glory.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is scheduled to release on January 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.  Keep checking back here for all your Resident Evil news and until next time I’ll leave you with a few RE7 screenshots that you can dig into and dissect.
