Take a Diabolical Dungeon Delve with NECROPOLIS

I’m a sucker for Rogue-like (or Rogue-lite) games.  Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac are two of my favorite games to come out in the last few years.  While they aren’t technically “Rogue-likes” they feature procedurally generated levels, a steep learning curve, and permanent death.  So each time you start up a new run you’re in for something a little different than the last one you played.  I’m always on the lookout for new games with similar features and much to my surprise and delight, I learned about a game called Necropolis while sifting through E3 coverage.  I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t heard of it before now because it seems like something right up my alley.

The game’s official website describes it as follows:

“NECROPOLIS: an addictive blend of third-person action and procedural dungeon-delving. Oh, and perma-death. Adventure alone or with up to 3 friends in a magical deathtrap that reconstructs itself each time you play. Will you find the exit, or die trying? (SPOILERS: You’ll probably die trying.)”

At its heart Necropolis is a third-person action game with combat that has been compared to that of the Dark Souls series.  You’ll be able to craft, acquire new weapons and gear, and explore a “living dungeon that reconstructs itself each time you play.”  The deeper you delve into this dungeon the harder and more twisted it gets and death is guaranteed to come often.  There will also be drop-in/drop-op co-op for up to four players.  Necropolis also features an original score from composer Jon Everist (which you can get for free if you pre-purchase the game on Steam) and from what I’ve heard so far, it’s shaping up to be a good one.

Necropolis is scheduled to release on July 12, 2016 for Steam and will make its way to PS4 and Xbox One later this Summer.  I for one am very much looking forward to delving deep into the unknown in the coming months.
