Nintendo’s been working on this entry of The Legend of Zelda for what seems like quite a long time now. At E3, they finally revealed some more information about it. First off, the title is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It looks like a pretty interesting take on the series. In the first trailer, you can see Link in different outfits, using the environment to attack enemies, scaling mountains, hunting for and cooking food, and using different weapons. It seems those rumblings of them taking cues from western-RPG’s weren’t unfounded.
We’ll get into some more detail later, but as of right now, check out the first real trailer.
If you want a deep dive on timeline stuff, I won’t be doing that. A quick theory that comes to mind is that this is either the Link from Skyward Sword or an entirely new Link. Why do I say that? Well, canonically (and don’t blame me for bringing that up, Nintendo is the one that made that ridiculous timeline), the Skyward Sword Link is the only Link that’s right-handed. This Link was put in some sleep state, so that lends some credence to that thought. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter to me, but that’s just my thought on the matter.
Moving on from that, they also revealed three new amiibos based on it. Yeah, I’ll be buying those, thanks.
And finally, they revealed how the Wolf Link amiibo from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be used. Short of it is that when you finish the Cave of Shadows, you can save your data to the amiibo and then summon Wolf Link with the same amount of hearts into Breath of the Wild. Finally, a nifty use of the save functionality of amiibos. You can check out Wolf Link in action in the last video below.
Let’s keep in mind that Breath of the Wild is also going to be coming to the NX, whatever that ends up being and whenever that is launching. Why is that important? You might be able to piece together a little of what the NX might be by paying attention to the interface for the Wii U version. At the very least, it’s a safe bet that the NX will support amiibo functionality. Sure, nothing is certain, but there’s little hints as to what may lay in store if you pay enough attention. I’ll dig a little deeper into that with the more in-depth analysis later today.
