Ys VIII Gets PS4 Version Gameplay Videos

At the Taipei Game Event, some gameplay of the Playstation 4 version of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana was shown off by the president of developer Nihon Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo.

While the gameplay videos focuses on the combat, which the Ys series in general is known for, we also get a glimpse at the much improved visuals, graphics, if you will, of the Playstation 4 version. Not only will it look better than the Vita version, but it will also run more smoothly as the game targets 60 FPS (even though the video runs at 30 FPS). If you have a PS4 Pro, you’ll also benefit from 4k support.

The PS4 version will see a few new additions to the Vita version aside from the improved looks. There will be a new scenario fleshing out (like she needs anymore flesh exposed) Dana’s story more. Load times leaving and entering the Drifting Village are gone, as well as a new system added to the defense of the Drifting Village that lets you counterattack the enemy bases after they’ve attacked the village. I’m not entirely sure how that last mechanic plays out, not having played Ys VIII myself, but adding more combat to an Ys game is something I’ll never complain about.

Neither the PS4 or Vita version has been announced for release outside of Japan. XSEED Games has brought out just about every other Ys game since they started handling the North American releases of the series, along with just about everything else Falcom related, with the 2o10 release of Ys Seven. I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least the PS4 version landing over here at some point. It’s currently due out in Japan May 15th, while the Vita version released last year on July 21st.
