Normally, the whole magical girl genre isn’t my thing, but Gust’s (best known for the Atelier series) latest RPG grabbed my attention earlier today. Blue Reflection: Sword of the Girl Who Dances in Illusions looks rather promising. Aside from Magic Knight Rayearth for the Saturn, I can’t really think of a more recent take on the magical girl genre in the RPG format. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t there isn’t a more recent one out there, but I’m just unaware of any.
The first trailer shows the basics of the battle system. It doesn’t go too deep into it, but it looks promising.
The second trailer shows a little more of it. I’m digging the art style of it and the animation looks quite smooth. This trailer gets into a little more of the game characters and the real world portion of it but does show a little more variety of the combat than the previous trailer did.
While not announced for a Western release at the moment, I think the odds are fairly good as most of Gust’s works have found their way over. It’s currently set to release on March 30th for the Playstation 4 and Vita in Japan.
