Double Fine announced that the original Pyschonauts is coming to the Playstation 4. While they did give the timeframe of some time in spring of 2016, they did not announce a specific release date for it.
Psychonauts was originally released on the Playstation 2 and Xbox, faring fairly well critically, but more or less bombed financially, selling around only 100,000 units when it launched. Double Fine, the game’s developer, gained the publishing rights back to it from Majesco and made it available digitally on Windows and Mac OS through Steam. It’s also available as an Xbox Original through the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playstation 3 as a PS2 Classic. Psychonauts has since sold considerably better once made available digitally, selling around 1.7 million units since December 2015.
As of a few days ago, Psychonauts 2 was also successfully funded on Fig, hitting its funding goal of $3.3 million with the help of over 20,000 backers.
While no price or specific release date has been announced, we do know that trophy support and a higher resolution will be part of the process of it coming to the Playstation 4.
