Natusume announced late last week that it will be showing off a new entry in the Wild Guns series, Wild Guns Reloaded. The original Wild Guns was released on the Super Nintendo back in 1994 in Japan and 1996 in North America and to mark its 20th anniversary, Natsume Inc. has partnered with Natsume Atari Inc. to bring the series to the Playstation 4. Tthe original development team for Wild Guns is still kicking around, so seeing the original creators getting to bring back this cult classic is both a labor of love on their part and a bit of a rarity in the industry.
“Wild Guns was an instant cult classic when it launched a little over 20 years ago, and fans have continued to love the franchise on Nintendo platforms over the years,” said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO of Natsume Inc. “We’re very excited to be working with Natsume Atari Inc. and the original development team to bring the game to the Playstation 4 audience.”
“With our 30th anniversary this year, it’s the perfect time to revisit one of our classic and most beloved titles,” said Takashi Matsumoto, CEO of Natsume Atari Inc. “The original programmer, designer, and sound creator of Wild Guns are excited to have an opportunity to revisit their game many years later, and bring it to a modern Sony audience.”
Wild Guns Reloaded seems to follow the story of the original, with Annie enlisting the help of a bounty hunter named Clint in her quest to get revenge and save what family she has left. In addition to the returning Annie and Clint, two new characters will be playable, each with their own play style. And while four player multiplayer has been announced, whether the multiplayer will be local, online, or both hasn’t.
Wild Guns Reloaded is set to be a gallery-style shooter, much like its predecessor, that throws in some Steampunk into its Wild West setting. It will feature eight stages with three zones in each stage. There will be returning stages as well as new ones, along with new bosses and weapons.
Natsume will be showing off Wild Guns Reloaded at this year’s E3, along with other titles. As of this writing, there’s no current release date set of Wild Guns Reloaded. The original Wild Guns is currently available on the Wii Virtual Console and the Wii U Virtual Console.
